Within a few meters he became aware of a sensation of unease. It puzzled him at first, but before long he recognized it as guilt. He had never walked through a forest unsupervised. All the forests of earth were reserves that one couldn't even enter without a pass, awarded after a stringent background check; and under no circumstances would a visitor be allowed to wander alone among the trees. He'd be shepherded by a "guide" who was more truly a guardian of the forest. Alone and unwatched, Garv felt like a sneak.
